Best Olive Oil

Aromas of green fruit, green grass, apple and notes of red fruit. Taste exhibits abundant fruitiness, green grass, sweetness, bitterness, light pungency and notes of almond, with exceptional harmony, a high complexity and a high persistence. La Montagnola estate produces an EVOO from olives harvested from the trees planted on the rocky hills of the area of Colli Martani. We take a particularly care of the oil that is entirely produced, pressed and bottled in our family estate. (...)

In Umbria, the poor man's Tuscany, you can live like a king

The Washington Post 08/11/2013

If this is country life, then sign this city boy up! After a breakfast that would make Nigella Lawson swoon — leftover tiramisu and a bubbling glass of prosecco — I'm out the door of my rented farmhouse on an expansive olive estate and heading down a dirt path in the foothills of the Apennines. Theoretically, I'm here to work the fields at Umbria's annual olive harvest. (..)

My Big Italian Dream Party

New York Times, 20/03/2012

EVER since my first dinner party, when I lived in a tiny flat in London and struggled over a menu of shrimp Creole while making sure I had eight forks for the eight people squeezing around my budget Ikea dining slab, few things have made me happier than sitting around a table with a hand-selected group of friends. Campari? Crostini? Step Into My Umbrian Estate

New York Times, 17/06/2009

IT is not exactly my olive oil estate. But it feels like mine. Because every July, when daylight stretches across the Umbrian landscape until 9:30 p.m. and the smell of fresh figs — roasted with Gorgonzola, wrapped in prosciutto, of course — wafts from the villa's two kitchens, you can find me, glass of prosecco in hand, holding court with my friends at the top of my own little mountain. We came back to La Montagnola in May 2016 for the second time. The whole family - grandparents, parents and 3 children - was very happy to have found this little paradise in the heart of Umbria near Perugia, Assisi and other picturesque little towns.

Vittoria and Carmello Our home in Umbria for a week was delightful. We celebrated birthdays with dear friends. We enjoyed the beauty that surrounded us at the Villa, as well as the Umbrian and Tuscany towns that surrounded us. The Villa is so peaceful in the morning and evening as the sun comes up and sets. The view of Assisi is magical at night! Each of the hill towns offer a personality of their own. You will not be disappointed! Bring good walking shoes and enjoy your visit!

What a hidden gem! Everyone wants to go to Tuscany, but this Umbrian retreat has it all! Though my friend, Carol Carroll (see below), had already been here and told us about it, La Montagnola was beyond our expectations! The views are spectacular especially in the evening when the light falls gently on Bettona. We spent two fabulous weeks in Caprareccia...with two different sets of friends! Everyone enjoyed taking day trips and eating amazing Italian lunches and then returning "home" for leisurely evenings with cocktails and homemade dinners (both ours and Carmela's!). However, there are excellent restaurants nearby, too!. Vittoria and Carmela made us feel very welcome and we all loved the cooking class and eating dinner in Vittoria's family home...a very special treat! It was fascinating to learn about Vittoria's olive oil production.and we can't wait to try the new oil which we will have sent to our homes in November. Vittoria, we can't thank you enough for our special vacation and hope that we can return one day. In the meantime, we will encourage everyone we know to visit your little piece of heaven! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

On my first trip to Italy, La Montagnola turned out to be the highlight! I totally loved the views including the beautiful sunsets. One of my highlights was dining with friends and family in the open air enjoying the view of Assisi and Bettona. Vittoria and her team do an incredible job preparing the villas and can accomodate most requests. The villas are secluded enough for the privacy I wanted, yet close enough to town to get supplies and whatever else we needed. Though this trip was planned by my sister and my wife, I loved La Montagnola and look forward to a trip back.

I am still glowing from my 2012 trip to the Mountain! Vittoria is a laid back and helpful hostess who brings Italian style and helps us navigate beyond the tourist-oriented places into an authentic and lovely Italy. Once our rental car crunches up the gravel driveway, our days slowly fill with Italian life. Itallian language, Italian food, Italian effortless style. It's hard to protect one day to stay by the pool with so many adventures available -- daytrips to Florence and Rome, Salvatore's cooking class, my pilgrimage to the Montevarchi Prada outlet, chatting with Carmela and Francesco. There's nothing else like it!

Vittoria- You have been so kind, picking me up in Perugia, shopping with me at the IperCoop and making sureI arrived here safely. I could not have done it without you! La Montagnola is like heaven, breathtakingly beautiful. You, Carmela and Romolo are "molto simpatici" and you have all enhanced my fabulous stay. Mille Grazie!!! Mary Ellen Whitman P.S. Please, take good care of the little grey cat.

Thank you Vittoria for making us feel so at home for our 2 week stay in July 2011. We loved that you stopped and visited us every day and gave us so many good recommendations of towns to visit. Spello was a winner. LaMontagnola has one of the most beautiful settings and the view couldn't have been more spectacular. And being more city folk we LOVED the fact that we could run out in the morning for cappuccinos and croissants. I feel we have made a friend in you also and hope our friendship can continue. My husband favorite part was coming back later in the day after driving those hairpin turns and narrow roads and having a martini and a swim and just relaxing. No better place to relax. It really is a little bit of heaven.

Thank you, Vittoria -- a thousand Grazies! -- for our stay April 23 -- May 3, 2011. We loved being at La Montagnola with our friend Nicole, who leads us in Pilates in Hudson, NY, and altogether our group of five enjoyed exercise every day and trips to large and small towns, as well as wine tasting, ceramic making and cooking class. The pace was wonderfully relaxed. Every day felt like an adventure and we found ourselves calling Il Poggio "home", not only because it was so comfortable but also because your elegance, your warm and gracious hospitality, and your sense of humor extend to every aspect of La Montagnola. We are still talking about Carmela's cooking! As we pass the highlights of our stay on to friends, we find that we are still under a spell that combines beauty, history, nature, food, and friendship in the artistry of daily life. Our first, but certainly not our last trip to Italy and La Montagnola could not have been more magical.

My stay at La Montagnola, 4/23/11 through 5/3/11, was incredibly special. This was my first trip to Italy and I am convinced that this is the best way to experience the natural beauty and rich culture of Italy. I was fortunate to join a lovely group from the US and enjoy Pilates and Yoga during my stay. The accommodations were lovely...I stayed in Il Poggio. The gorgeous views, the amazingly fragrant flowers, the songbirds...it was heavenly! I truly loved Umbria, especially the smaller, quieter towns like Deruta. Though, I must say that as a first-timer, I was thrilled to get to visit Florence, Assisi, and Siena, as well. Many thanks to Vittoria and Carmella for making my stay at La Montagnola a completely wonderful experience! I loved being there and look forward to my next visit! I ask you, I beg you, I beseech you. If you are looking for a place in Umbria, stop looking and stay at La Montagnola. We picked it on the strength of the full page story on The New York Times by Helene Cooper, their White House correspondent and I must say she was absolutely right. At La Montagnola you have privacy, all the facilities you need, and a splendid location, just 10 miles from Perugia. La Montagnola also has one asset that you may not find at other agriturismi: a graceful, gentle, distinguished owner, Vittoria Iraci Borgia. Just go there for the privilege of meeting her. In ten days we drove to Spoleto, Bevagna, Bettona, Spello, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Castiglione del Lago, Montefalco, Todi, Deruta and of course Perugia.

Vittoria, our stay in Caprareccia has been incredibile beautiful – the scenari, the accommadation, the view are all breathtakingly beautiful. But what really has made our state a memory that will forever been in our hearths is the overwelming sense of "home" that you have instilled in all of us. We will keep you and your lovely La Montagnola in our hearts for ever and always We will return, of course, but in the meantime the thought of our wonderful time here will make us smile often! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you … for the trip of a lifetime. Bruce and Kathy - September 2010

Dear Vittoria, we have enjoyed staying for the third time in La Montagnola inspite of an exceptionally unfriendly weather. We appreciate diving into the calm of this natural paradise, listening to the singing birds and redescovering the colours and reachness of the vegetation. You have created a inique and lovely"eremo" which we hope you will be able to mantain. We thank you, Carmela, and Romolo, for your friendly and warm hospitality May 2010 Marcel und Hannelore Mangen Germany

Novembre 8th, 2010 We found this piece of paradise in 2001, and have been back every year except for 2. Why do we love La Montagnola? Let me count the ways: Peace, tranquility, rejuvination, beauty, and most of all the hospitality of Vittoria, are beautiful family, Carmela and all the people of Laa Montagnola. Our true "home away from home". A place that is always in our heart!!! Until September 2011, fondly Marilyn and Dick

A group of friends shared a week at La Caprareccia in early August 2010. The rooms, the view, the pool and the incredible natural setting made for a lovely vacation. We had the best weather imaginable for August. Vittoria was so helpful and gracious a host and guide to the area. We hope to come again. Carol: I think it's a little far to walk into town, depending on whether you like to hike. It would be a bit hot in summer weather, I think.

What a wonderful trip! My family stayed here from 7/10-7/17. We stayed in Caprareccia and it was everything we wanted. Total privacy, and beautiful views. You can take great day trips and come back to the pool in the afternoon. I hope we can make it back soon.

Torgiano, Umbria and Montagnolaare all the best kept secrets of travel in Italy. Our stay in teh middle of October was pure delight. Vittoria was a wonderful hostess and made us feellike we were part of the family. She is a wonderful cook and if you get a chance take her cooking class. Watching the sunrises and sunsets from the BLU apartment was unforgetable. Montagnola is at the top of my list of places to visit and enjoy. Wayne Rickman- Aiken South Carolina

The best kept secret in Italy! Coming from the hotel industry we prefer unique, non traditional accommodations absent of the typical tourists. If you are looking to experience the pleasures of Italy ….this is the place. Torgiano is just a short drive to many of Italy's most visited towns and cities. The breathing vistas and warm hospitality of La Montagnola revitalize spirit. We have visited La Montagnola three times and fail to tire of it. Each trip we invite a new set of friends who experience the same attraction. Vittoria, her family and staff make you feel right at home. She is a jewel…we feel blessed to have become her friend. Looking forward to our next visit! Ginny - Ft. Lauderdale

La Montagnola was recommended to us by friends who have traveled the world in their business. Our first stay was part of a honeymoon trip, we now return each year, to celebrate our anniversary. Our first return trip was more of a home coming than a vacation. Vittoria and her staff provide comfortable villas with beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside. They will also shop and stock your kitchen in preparation for your arrival. Torgiano is a typical small Italian town with warm, welcoming people and excellent family run restaurants and shops. There are many well known towns, within driving distance of La Montagnola, but too many to see in one trip. If you need a larger city, Perugia, capitol of the province of Umbria, known for its world famous chocolates, is about 15 mi away. Those who need a larger city can travel to Florence for the day, 1 3/4 hours nonstop by train. At the end of the day it's a short drive to one of the local restaurants or you can arrange to have Carmella prepare a pan of homemade lasagna and her killer tiramisu.

My 50th birthday celebration at La Montagnola with all of my closest friends was truly a wonderful experience, one I shall never forget...thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Many of us can not wait to return. There is something very special about La Montagnola to each and every one of us that were fortunate to be there. My birthday dinner in the villa was unforgetable!!
